Critical Mass

Friday, June 29:  The Critical Mass bicycle ride will begin at Embarcadero Plaza (formerly Justin Herman Plaza) at 6 p.m.

There will be heavy traffic in the area. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.

 

Families Belong Together March and Rally

Saturday, June 30:  The “Families Belong Together” march will leave Dolores Park at 10 a.m., proceed along Dolores Street to Market Street, then continue on Market Street to Polk Street, where it will turn north and continue to a rally in Civic Center Plaza in front of City Hall. The rally is expected to last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be disruptions to Muni service and traffic congestion should be expected in the vicinity of the march route and Civic Center. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.

A street closure of Dr Carlton B Goodlett Place between McAllister and Grove streets will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Fillmore Street Jazz Festival

Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1:  The 34th Annual Fillmore Street Jazz Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day on Fillmore Street between Jackson and Eddy streets.

The following street closures will be required:

From 12:01 a.m., Saturday to 11:59 p.m., Sunday

  • Fillmore Street between Jackson and Eddy streets
  • Washington and Clay streets between Webster and Steiner streets
  • O’Farrell Street between Fillmore and Steiner streets
  • Intersections:  Ellis, Wilmot, O’Farrell, Washington and Clay streets at Fillmore Street

The closure of O’Farrell Street is also designated for the Fillmore Farmers’ Market which will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

 

Annual July 4 Independence Day Fireworks Celebration

Wednesday, July 4: The July 4 annual Independence Day Fireworks Celebration will start at 2 p.m. along the waterfront near the Municipal Pier and Pier 39. Entertainment will be at Pier 39, Aquatic Park and Ghirardelli Square.  The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Starting from around noon to 11 p.m., large crowds and heavy traffic should be expected to and from Treasure Island.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., no traffic will be allowed north of Lombard Street, from Van Ness to Doyle Drive, except for residents.

As many as 200,000 people are expected in the event area. Traffic congestion and disruption of transit service are expected in the northern section of the city.  To ensure safety of the riding public, customers should pay attention to their surroundings and allow extra travel time to get around the City.

The following street closures will be in effect:

  • 9 to 11 p.m., Wednesday
    • Southbound Polk Street between Bay and Union streets (except for Muni, bicycles and taxis)
  • 8:30 p.m. to midnight, Wednesday
    • Marina Boulevard exit off Doyle Drive may be closed
  • 6 a.m., Tuesday to 5 p.m., Thursday
    • Jefferson Street from Aquatic Park to Hyde Street
  • 6 a.m., Wednesday to 4 a.m., Thursday
    • The Embarcadero between Powell and Mason streets
  • 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Wednesday
    • Van Ness Avenue between North Point Street and the Municipal Pier Terminus
    • Beach Street from Polk Street to the Terminus
  • 11 a.m., Wednesday to 4 a.m., Thursday
    • Jefferson Street between Hyde and Powell streets
  • 9:20 to 10:15 p.m., Wednesday
    • Northbound Embarcadero between Broadway and Bay Street

Note:  As the crowd grows and to ensure safety of pedestrians, SFPD Police Officers and SFMTA Parking Control Officers can decide to close Fisherman’s Wharf area bounded by The Embarcadero, Van Ness Avenue and Bay Street earlier than the scheduled time listed above to vehicular traffic.

Embarcadero: Bay to Taylor

Jefferson:        Embarcadero to Hyde

Beach:             Hyde to west of Polk

Taylor:             Beach to Embarcadero

Polk & Larkin: North Point to Beach

Van Ness:       North Point to Muni Pier

Hyde:              Beach to Jefferson

Leavenworth:  Beach to Jefferson

Jones:             Beach to Jefferson

Mason:            Beach to Jefferson

Powell:            Beach to Jefferson

To expedite transit flow following the fireworks, southbound traffic on Polk Street between Bay and Union streets will be restricted to buses, taxis and bicycles only between 9 and 11 p.m.  Northbound traffic on Polk Street will not be affected.

  • West side of 3rd street between King and Townsend streets, five spaces
