Saturday, Fourth of July

San Francisco is preparing for one of the most significant Fourth of July celebrations in decades. To mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the city will host a special fireworks display launched from the Golden Gate Bridge—only the third time fireworks have ever been launched from the iconic span.

The event is expected to attract large crowds from across the Bay Area and beyond. In response, transportation, public safety and event agencies have been working together to develop a coordinated plan to help people travel safely and efficiently before and after the celebration.

Temporary Street Closures

Temporary street closures and restrictions will be in effect at the following locations on Saturday, July 4:

  • Jefferson Street will be closed to all traffic between Hyde Street and The Embarcadero from 1 until 11 p.m. Traffic on The Embarcadero will be routed onto Beach Street.
  • Streets in the Fisherman’s Wharf and Marina neighborhoods will be restricted to local access, beginning around at 8 p.m. until 11 p.m.Only residents, guests and deliveries will be permitted to access streets north of Bay, Alhambra and Francisco streets as well as Chestnut Street between Fillmore Street and Van Ness Avenue after 8 p.m.

Ways to Get to and from the Show

Taxi

  • A temporary taxi stand will be set up on the west side of Baker Street between Beach Street and Bay Street (along the side of the Palace of Fine Arts) from 6 p.m. until midnight.
  • Please be prepared to walk away from the viewing locations when requesting a rideshare service.

Downtown First Thursdays

Thursday, July 2: The Downtown First Thursdays (DFT) event will take place on 2nd Street from 5 to 10 p.m. This is a free monthly street party that takes place on every first Thursday of the month. For more details, visit www.dftsf.com.

The following street closures will be required from noon until midnight, Thursday, July 2:

  • 2nd Street between Market and Folsom streets
  • Clementina Street between 2nd and 1st streets
  • Jessie Street between New Montgomery and 2nd streets
  • Minna Street between New Montgomery and 1st streets
  • Natoma Street between New Montgomery and 1st streets
  • Stevenson Street between New Montgomery and 1st streets
  • Tehama Street between Hawthorne and 1st streets

 

Events at Chase Center

Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5: The Golden State Warriors will host the eighth annual California Classic Summer League at the Chase Center, featuring games play between the Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs. Below are details of these games:

Street Closures

To accommodate events that will take place at the arena, the following street closures will be enforced two hours before and one hour after each event:

  • 16th Street between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
  • Warriors Way between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
  • Northbound 3rd Street between 16th Street and Warriors Way will also be closed approximately 30 minutes before and 45 minutes after the event.

Only local access will be allowed on Northbound Illinois Street between Mariposa and 16th streets.

 

Taxi Stands

There is one taxi stand located on southbound Terry Francois Boulevard.

Ramp Taxis should use the loading zone on eastbound Warriors Way at Bridgeview Way.

Fillmore Jazz Festival

Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5: The Annual Fillmore Street Jazz Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day on Fillmore Street between Jackson and Eddy streets. For more event details, visit www.fillmorejazzfest.com.

The following street closures will be required from 9 p.m., Friday, July 3 to 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 5:

  • Fillmore Street between Eddy and Jackson streets
  • Washington Street between Webster and Steiner streets
  • Wilmot Street between Webster and Steiner streets
  • Post Street between Webster and Steiner streets
  • Intersections closed: On Fillmore Street at Washington, Wilmot and Post streets

Taxi Stands

There is a taxi zone on Geary Street, block 1801 to 1807, between Fillmore and Steiner streets.

San Francisco Giants Games

Monday, July 6 through Wednesday, July 8: The San Francisco Giants will play three games at the ballpark. Listed below are the start time for these games:
  • Three games against the Toronto Blue Jays: a) 6:45 p.m., Monday, July 6; b) 6:45 p.m., Tuesday, July 7; and c) 12:45 p.m., Wednesday, July 8.

Street Closures

To accommodate events that will take place at the ballpark, the following street closures will be enforced:

  • Two and a half hours before the opening pitch, the SFMTA will close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic. King Street will reopen after first pitch until the seventh inning.
  • From the seventh inning until post-game traffic dies down, the SFMTA will again close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic in order to reduce congestion on city streets.
  • Additionally, the northbound portion of the 4th Street Bridge (Peter R. Maloney Bridge) will be closed to all traffic except Muni, taxis and bicycles during the post-game period.

  • 2nd Street, west side, between Brannan and King Streets
  • 2nd Street, east side, between Townsend and King Streets
  • 3rd Street, east side, north of King Street
